So I've been going around reading different discussions about everyone's ideas of how the shipping process works.
From what I've gathered, it seems to me that Vinted is not very clear on the whole process of their shipping labels and such.
When you choose the lowest weight for shipping (0.5 lb), the shipping label provides by Vinted will exempt you from paying extra shipping fees, provided you use your own box or envelope (preferably those yellow or brown paxkages). The shipping label will NOT exempt you if you use the priority mail envelope/box.
When you choose the 2lb or 5 lb option, the shipping label IS compatible with the priority mail envelope or box. This is where you can simply pick up a free box or envelope from USPS, slap the shipping label on, and ship it out FOR FREE.
0.5 lb : use own package + Vinted shipping label = no extra fees
0.5 lb: priority mail package + Vinted shipping label = extra shipping fees (BAD)
2 lb or 5 lb : use own package OR priority mail package + Vinted shipping label = no extra fees
Fee free to leave comments about this or if I got any info wrong. This is just what I understand how the process works and I want to help new vinties be stress free of how this whole thing works.
Why do shipping cost changes upon check out? Sometimes, too drastically... For instance, the shipping for the pair of shoes I like is $6.70 then suddenly changed to $18.48... I almost clicked buy not knowing that the shipping cost will jacked up... By that much...
How heavy a pair of flat shoes can weigh that the shipping will be 3 times higher than initially stated?

When the buyer clicks the "Buy" button, she'll be paying not only for the item but also for the shipping. At that moment, the system automatically adds up the shipping cost based on the from/to addresses and the shipping size the seller picked when she listed the item. All of the shipping option through Vinted come with tracking!
- Small shipping size, cost starts at $2.80
If your item is small or weighs less than half a pound (or 8 oz), you'll choose the small shipping size. Because the shipping label for this size falls under First Class, you'll need to use your own packaging. Any plain padded mailing envelope or plain box will do! This shipping label won't work with the Priority Mail packaging.
- Medium shipping size, shipping cost from $5.30 and up, depending on location
Choose this size if you're shipping a pair of jeans, a sweater, or any item that weighs between half a pound to 2 pounds. The shipping label for this size falls under Priority Mail, so you can use either your own packaging or the free Priority Mail packaging at the post office or at USPS.com.
- Large shipping size, cost ranges from $6.70 and up, depending on location
This size works for multiple or bigger items that weigh more than 2 pounds, like shoes, bags, or coats. The shipping label is also Priority Mail, and you can use either your own box or the free Priority Mail box.
Please note that the Flat Rate packaging looks very similar to the Priority Mail packaging, but they won’t work with your prepaid shipping label, so you do not want to use Flat Rate boxes.
Because flat rate is a flat rate as long as it fits. Weight doesn't matter. This goes by weight. It's better for light items (so you don't pay $7 for a pair of earrings) and more expensive for heavy items that could be shipped for $7 flat rate if they fit in the box, but vinted doesn't do flat rate they do priority so it goes by weight.
I get that.... I was just making a point... If shipping cost is based on weight it should be even cheaper because a pair of flat shoes shouldn't weigh more than 2 lbs unless it's all metal.., the math just don't make sense... That's fine. I guess I will just have to be mindful of the sudden changes in shipping prices from now on... Especially with that considerable difference....
I am more of a buyer than a seller... This inconsistency in shipping prices will going to be a drawback for me. I just bought a couple of items here just testing the water... I paid $2.80 shipping fee for a pair of flats from CA delivered PA. Now, why would I pay $18.48 shipping cost for another set of flats coming from the same location? Just saying...
Hi i have a very important question. When i had added an item to vinted i chose the 2 pound shipping. Well today someone bought an the item and i realized i shouldve put 5 pound shipping. Will there be a problem at the post office?
@Aleeshacee it all depends on your clerk to be honest. If they weigh it when you bring it in, you will be responsible for the extra shipping. Sometimes, the clerks aren't as diligent as they should be and do bother checking weight. I like to be honest, even with the post office, so I bought a small kitchen scale and check weights on that before I pick my shipping level. If the weight disparity is caught after the item is shipped, the buyer will be asked to pay the extra before recieving the package. This can also make some buyers really annoyed at the unexpected expense and can either reject the package and it goes back to you or they may not chose to purchase from you again.
Honestly, I prefer Poshmark for larger bundles as a buyer. shipping only costs around $7, and is based on amount spent, that being the higher end. Location doesn't matter. As a buyer for larger bundles, Poshmark is best..just stating the obvious. Shipping here for larger items is outrageous.
so when you go to the post office, all they had was the flat rate shipping boxes. i dont understand why those wont work. the shipping is already paid for and as long as it is under the weight limit, shouldnt it work? so confused on the priority mail and the flat rate priority mail stuff. someone please explain and help me figure this out!
Flat rate prices are generally more than what we pay through vinted. They are more intended to send heavy items that would be astronomical to ship by weight. Since we are just sending clothes it doesn't make sense to pay for flat rate prices, bc its actually cheaper to mail based on weight. Priority= Mailed based on weight, Flat rate= Mailed based on mass.
Does that help answer your question? @madi_minton_8
@madi_minton_8 Vinted labels are not compatible with flat rate boxes because they are not flat rate labels. For the lowest option you have to use your own shipping materials but for the 2nd and 3rd shipping options you can use the free USPS priority mail boxes. Just make sure they do not have flat rate anywhere on them
