A rare WWI 1915 British Army Officer''s Compass, Verner's Pattern by Ed Koehn of Geneva.
The compass fully functioning, it has a brass case with a mounted lanyard ring. The glass face and numbered brass outer ring are perfectly intact. The lid is stamped 'Verner's Pattern VII”. The rear of the case is stamped with war department arrow and by the manufacturer ''E, Koehn Geneva, Switzerland'' together with ''1915'' date. The serial number is 21000.
The front of the leather case is embossed “J.B.Brookes and Co. Ltd.” 1915, along with the hand-written words “Cadic 201”. The reverse side of the case has the embossed war department arrow symbol. There is also a barely legible embossed “21 DIV”.
This is an original example of the MK VIII Verners Pattern marching compass from the world famous Swiss Watchmaker Edouard Koehn of Geneva, Switzerland.
There is patina and age related scuffs/dents on the compass and case. For a 90 year old compass it is in very good condition.
