A beautiful Chinese carved seal, also known as a "chop," which has been used signing documents and sealing parcels.
Material: The stone is a pale green/beige suggesting it may be a type of soapstone (steatite) or a serpentine/jade-style mineral.
Carving: The top is intricately carved in a traditional style, possibly depicting a dragon or a mythical beast intertwined with natural elements.
Seal Face: The base is carved with Chinese characters in the style used for stamping. An included small paper shows the character impression. The characters mean "Patricia" and the object is "blue/green jade, Xia dynasty / summer," but I cannot verify the age or material definitively. My sister brought this home from China for our late aunt and I'm hoping I can find a home for it.
Condition: Very good condition. Minor wear consistent with usage.
Includes: The original rectangular cardboard storage box covered in green patterned paper, along with the handwritten notes shown in the photos.
Dimensions: Approximately 7 cm tall and 2 cm wide.
A wonderful decorative item for collectors of Asian art, vintage curiosities, or desk accessories. It also makes a unique gift!
