Why you may be asked for your ID
We always aim to keep you safe and build trust in our community. Thus, we choose Adyen, N.V. — a legitimate and regulated payment service provider — to process all payments made via our platform.
Adyen is a federally-licensed branch of a foreign bank. It stores and handles your money safely when you trade on Vinted or use Vinted Wallet (provided as a financial service by Adyen).
To ensure safety and security, Adyen may perform the ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) procedure and collect additional personal data about you. This is a mandatory procedure required by law.
‘Know Your Customer’ is a member identity verification procedure. As a regulated bank, Adyen is required by law to apply it to ensure that its services meet the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing requirements.
By performing the KYC procedure, Adyen ensures that payments on Vinted:
- Comply with legal requirements
- Meet the standards of payment security
The purpose of the KYC procedure is to identify members and help ensure that they’re acting fairly and legally. That is, they’re not engaging in any fraudulent or illicit activities.
Providing personal data may seem inconvenient, but KYC plays a big part in ensuring a safe environment on Vinted. So, if you’re a seller with an active Vinted Wallet, you might have to complete this procedure.
Activating your Vinted Wallet
To sell on Vinted, you’ll have to activate your Vinted Wallet by entering your full name, birth date, address and partial social security number (SSN) (if applicable) and/or provide a copy of your passport, ID card, or driver’s license (if applicable). Adyen, which provides Vinted Wallet, needs these details to activate it.
You’ll also have to confirm Adyen’s Terms and Conditions. Once your Wallet is activated, you’ll become Adyen’s client and user of their payment services.
If you don’t verify your Vinted Wallet in advance, please do so within 5 business days of your first sale, before you send the sold item. Otherwise, we’ll have to cancel your order, unfortunately.
You can send the sold item as soon as your Vinted Wallet is active. You will receive your earnings in your Vinted Wallet once the order is completed. Then, use that money to buy on Vinted, or make a withdrawal to your bank account.
The 1st tier of KYC
You might get a request to provide a copy/photo of a document to complete your identity verification if you:
- Reach the sales limits, including the canceled transactions (these thresholds are set by Adyen)
- Act suspiciously or seem to be involved in fraudulent or other illegal activity (e.g. your provided banking details were previously provided by someone else, etc.)
You can provide one of the following documents:
- SSN (in case it was not requested during Vinted Wallet activation); and/or
- Your passport (if applicable)
- Your driver’s license (if applicable)
- U.S. visa (if applicable)
The document must be valid, clearly visible, and complete (both sides). We’ll immediately notify you if your document doesn’t match these requirements.
The 2nd tier of KYC
You might get a request to provide a copy/photo of a document to complete your identity verification if you:
- Reach a higher sales limit, including the canceled transactions (these thresholds are set by Adyen)
- Act suspiciously or seem to be involved in fraudulent or other illegal activity (e.g. your provided banking details were previously provided by someone else, etc.)
You can provide the following document:
- Bank statement
ImportantWe don’t store or even have access to the documents you provide. They go directly to Adyen, which is responsible for handling them securely.
In rare cases, Adyen might require further details, such as proof of address. If you’re a potentially politically exposed person (PEP), you may also be required to provide further information about yourself. We’ll contact you when this is required.
Once you provide the documents and Adyen analyzes them, you may continue selling on Vinted hassle-free.
If you don’t provide the documents, Adyen might restrict you from using or withdrawing your earnings.
If you upload a suspicious or fraudulent document (including ID), it will be rejected by Adyen and your Vinted wallet may be suspended.

Adyen collects data and uses it for conducting the KYC procedure to comply with the Currency and Foreign Transactions Reporting Act.
To enable Adyen to fulfill these obligations, we have implemented Adyen’s API. API is a secure connection channel between software programs which is used to transfer data. It allows you to submit document copies directly to Adyen without leaving Vinted.
It’s our legitimate interest to enable payments on Vinted with Adyen. To do so, we must provide Adyen with the information they’re obliged to collect.
Adyen has updated its Terms and Conditions. Please review the updated terms to see how they affect you. The new terms will take effect 30 days after this Help Center update on 3 December 2025, unless more time is required by law.
If you continue using Adyen’s services after the effective date, it will mean you have accepted the new terms. If you do not agree with the changes, please stop using the services before they take effect.
