Lovely vintage item. Stamped on the bottom. No defects. In these present times could be used as a candle holder or as a Halloween or Witchery item. Even a small starter plant pot as it has drain hole in the bottom. 3 inches high by 3.5 inches wide approximately. The phrase "the chosen of bard and chief" appears in the lyrics of the Irish song and poem "Oh, the Shamrock" by Thomas Moore. The relevant lines from the poem are: O the Shamrock, the green, immortal Shamrock! Chosen leaf Of Bard and Chief, Old Erin's native Shamrock! In this context, "the chosen leaf of Bard and Chief" refers to the shamrock. The shamrock is the national emblem of Ireland. It was chosen and cherished by the ancient Celtic bards (poets/storytellers) and the chiefs (leaders/kings) of Ireland ("Old Erin's native Shamrock"). The poem also speaks to the shamrock's symbolism of the union of "Love, Valour, Wit" and the Christian Trinity.
