Item packaging requirements and prohibited items list

When sending items with the prepaid Vinted-generated shipping label, make sure they comply with our Catalogue Rules and the prohibited items list (added at the end of this article). Additionally, ensure the items are packed properly.

If you ignore these rules and requirements, you may not receive a refund or compensation if your parcel is damaged in transit.

Packaging requirements when shipping with integrated carriers
  1. Use sturdy outer packaging, such as a cardboard box appropriate for the item's size. The box should protect the item from dirt and moisture during transit. When available, you can use carrier-provided packaging, such as padded, waterproof envelopes or bags, available at certain drop-off points (refrain from using regular paper or plastic bags) to ship your items safely.
  2. Use appropriate material for inner packaging. To prevent items from touching the outer packaging and moving around, fill in the empty space. You can use bubble wrap, foam, paper, newspaper or corrugated material. If an item is heavy, we recommend using two or three layers of cardboard boxes.
  3. Protect fragile items. Fragile items or item components should be sent separately from other items. Wrap each piece individually, using bubble wrap, foam, or blankets for protection. Refrain from using regular paper or plastic bags when sending a fragile item to avoid damaging it.
  4. Add a label with care instructions. Mark your parcel with necessary handling instructions, such as "Fragile," "This side up," or "Heavy" to alert the carrier.
  5. Disassemble when possible. Dismantle larger items to reduce the risk of damage. Use bags or pouches for tiny components so they don’t get lost.
  6. Properly attach the label. Stick it flat on the largest parcel side, ensuring the barcode is fully visible. Print the label in good quality and secure it with strong tape. Apply a small piece of tape along all four edges. Be sure to remove any old parcel stickers or other labels from the parcel.
  7. Send multiple items together (except for electronic devices with batteries, which must be shipped separately). If you’re sending a bundle, make sure the items are placed in a single parcel and not packed separately or tied together. Otherwise, the carrier may refuse to transport them.

Please note that different carriers might have different requirements. Make sure to follow them; otherwise, the carrier may refuse to ship your item.

Packaging requirements for dangerous goods (including electronic devices with batteries)

Dangerous goods are items that pose a risk to health, safety, or the environment during transportation. These can include batteries and electronics.

Reset your electronic item

Make sure to delete any personal data and disconnect any accounts from your device to keep your information secure and the device accessible for new users. Buyers can request to return your device for a refund if it can’t be used due to a connected account. Devices purchased with the Electronics Verification service will fail verification and be returned to you if they can’t be used due to connected accounts.

Here’s what you need to do before sending a device:

  1. Go to Settings on your device and unlink any connected accounts (such as your Google, Apple, or any other service-specific accounts).
  2. Remove all personal data. Some devices allow a remote reset as a backup, but we strongly advise erasing the data before you ship the item.
  3. Reset your device to factory settings. Here are some helpful instructions for different devices:
    • iOS or Android tablet or phone
    • iOS or Android smartwatch
    • iOS or Windows computer

Pack your electronic item

  1. If the device has a battery The battery must be installed to prevent short circuits. Ensure batteries are safe to ship, as defective or damaged ones (e.g., swelling, corroding, leaking) can be extremely dangerous and are prohibited. Also, make sure the device is turned off. A maximum of two batteries can be included per package, and the device must be secured to prevent accidental activation while being transported.
  2. Inner packaging Use the original box of the device, if available. If not, use bubble wrap or air cushions for maximum security against damage.
  3. Outer packaging Place the inner packaging in a strong outer box (preferably double or triple-walled). Use foam pellets, cardboard, or air pillows to fill gaps and prevent the device from moving. Make sure the packaging is sturdy enough to handle drops without damaging the device.
  4. Packing additional accessories Place the accessories in the original box if they fit. Alternatively, wrap accessories separately from the main device and pack them together in the outer box.
  5. Take photos of your packaging Take photos of the inside and outside of your package, ensuring the shipping label is visible. You don't need to send the photos to us now, keep them in case of a dispute with the shipping provider later.

Finally, carefully seal the outer box to ensure it will not open during transportation and apply the provided label (if printed). Make sure that such parcels are marked with a special label — “Fragile”.
